Meet Dave Dowling

Dave Dowling grew cut flowers in Montgomery County, MD for 20 years. With field, high tunnel, and greenhouse production, Farmhouse Flowers & Plants produced cut flowers year round.

Most of the flowers raised were sold at area farmers markets, including two year round markets in the Washington, DC area. Direct sales to retail florists and Whole Foods rounded out the marking channels used selling hundreds of thousands of cut flowers each year. Flowers were sold direct to florists from Baltimore to Washington, DC through Capital Flower Growers, LLC, a cooperative formed with two other flower growers in 2013.

Dave has experience building and maintaining high tunnels and greenhouses for cut flower production.

Early in 2014, Dave closed his cut flower business and began working for Ednie Flower Bulb, which is now a division of Fred C Gloeckner & Co. He keeps busy as sales rep and advisor to cut flower growers across North America with small to medium sized farms. Dave also works on marketing, promotions,
and new cut flower products at Ednie/Gloeckner.

Dave served as the Mid-Atlantic Regional Director of the Association of Specialty Cut Flower Growers (ASCFG) from 2002 through 2004, and served as President from 2006 to 2009, and again from 2016 to 2018. He was the ASCFG Industry Liaison from 2014-2015, Dave was the chairperson of the ASCFG National Conference held in Lancaster, PA in 2005.

Nicole Pitt, Flower Hill Farm

I feel like I always have Dave in my back pocket after taking this course. All I need to do is open the course- go to the perennial I’m about to plant and get all of his tips and tricks on demand. His connection with graduates after class ends is also much appreciated- answering questions in the private group all the time.

Emily – Fuggles Flowers

Dave’s course is exceptional. It has taken me a few months to really chew on the material in my mind, and now I am starting to explode with ideas of how to implement the crops he offers. This course does an excellent job offering ideas of advancing your cutting options.

Red Barn Farm, River Falls, WI

We have been growing veggies for 18 years and flowers for 15. I took both Dave’s and Lisa’s course this past winter and learned a lot about some new ways and flowers to plant. Some of the info i won’t be able to use now but the great thing is I can go back and reference the information when I’m ready for that next step! I highly recommend both courses!!

The Purple Tuteur Farm

In depth detail oriented course on growing bulbs, perennials and woodies from a proven expert. Access to Dave after the course for questions is the best opportunity to clarify your learning. Well worth the time and money.

Jenn McAtee

This class was exactly what I needed. A no fuss but thorough guide to bulbs and perennials. It is full of so much information I would have never been able to dig up myself and I love that I can go back and quickly re-listen whenever I need a refresher. I’m a few years into my farm business and it was just the info I needed to take it to the next level. Highly recommend.

Rick Walker

Great course. Dave explained everything so that even a rookie like me understood what he was teaching. I will continue to monitor the course for updates. Thanks Dave Dowling and Lisa Mason Ziegler for helping us all become better flower farmers.
